Remember to take good care of your computer and bring it fully charged to school each day. If you have an issue with your Landon-owned computer, please report it to firstname.lastname@example.org immediately. For family-owned computers, work to get it repaired. But, if you are in need of a computer to use for a day, or a few days, most students will receive a Chromebook to use in the meantime.
Procedure for getting
If at all possible avoid the need for a loaner computer by taking care of your computer and establishing good habits so you will have it when you need it.
In the event you do need a computer:
Lower schoolers should contact their homeroom teacher who will contact Mrs Ahmad in the LS office.
Middle schoolers should contact Mr. Herring (office on lower level near deans).
Upper schoolers should contact any member of the technology staff in the US media center).
As with all property (and particularly property that belongs to others), treat it well. Only use it as long as needed and return it to the person from whom you borrowed it in good condition.
What Chromebooks can and can't do:
Remember that a ChromeBook is different than a Mac or PC. It is a simple web browser. This mean that it can work with all cloud-based tools and programs, which is great insofar as almost everything we use is "cloud-based".
That said, you need to understand that you will not be able to use the full versions of programs like Word and Excel, and you will not be able to download programs to it. You will also not be able to save your work to the ChromeBook. You will save it to OneDrive. This means that the way you work on, access, and turn in work may be affected.
